The GTCC Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to an outstanding alumnus/ae of GTCC (or GTI). For the purposes of this award, alumni are defined as everyone who successfully completed 12 or more curriculum credit hours at GTCC or GTI, or is the recipient of a continuing education certificate such as Message Therapy or CNA. It is not required that the nominee have a GTCC curriculum program diploma, certificate or degree in order to be eligible.

The award recipient will be selected based on evidence of:
1. Outstanding contributions in their chosen career
2. Extraordinary contributions to their community
3. Exemplary personal service to Guilford Technical Community College; and/or
4. A combination of achievements in the above areas

The Alumni Association Board will review all of the nominations and will select the recipient. The winner is introduced at the GTCC Commencement ceremony in May and is encouraged to attend if at all possible. The recipient is notified in advance so that he/she may make plans to be at Commencement.

The award consists of a plaque as well as publication in local newspapers and in the Foundation newsletter.
The recipients will also be included on the Foundation Wall of Honor.

Previous recipients are Harry Boody, Judy Miller, Dr. Roma Cheek Swindell, and Sheriff B.J. Barnes.
