Baseball Coaching Staff

Head Coach - John Barrow

John Barrow enters his 5th year at the helm of the Titans baseball program.  Barrow has posted an overall record of 84-91 over the first four years of the program's existence.  In 2011, the Titans had their most successful campaign finishing as Region X runners-up.  Under Barrow's tutelage, eight Titans have garnered All-Region X honors, one Titan has received Academic All-American honors, and over thirty Titans have moved on to play at four-year colleges, including eight at the NCAA Division I level.  In 2009, Barrow saw his first player get taken in the MLB Draft.  Overall, four of Barrow's former players have played professionally (two currently).

Barrow is no stranger to building successful baseball programs. He founded the baseball program at Region X rival Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC during the summer of 2000. During his 4-year tenure as head coach, RCC set school records each year for wins. Barrow led the Eagles to a 2nd place finish in the Region X tournament in only the program's second year of existence in 2002. His 2004 team also set school records for team batting average, team hits, team home runs, and team RBI's while producing the program's only winning season to date. That same team also saw 8 players, including its top 4 pitchers, sign scholarships with 4-year programs (including two with NCAA D-I programs). Over twenty players went on from RCC to play at 4-year NCAA and NAIA programs during Barrow's reign, including four at NCAA Division-I institutions. Under Barrow's tutelage, five Eagle players garnered All-Region X honors.

The Jamestown, NC native graduated from Bridgewater (VA) College in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in English. He earned his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State in 1998. Barrow served as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineers' baseball program during the 1998 season as well. He also served on the baseball staff at NCAA Division I baseball powerhouse Tulane University in New Orleans later that year. He returned home to teach English and coach baseball and football at Morehead High School in Eden, NC up until his hiring at Rockingham Community College in 2000.

The 1992 graduate of Ragsdale High School enjoyed standout prep careers in both baseball and football, garnering All-Conference and All-Guilford County honors in both sports. He was runner-up for the Conference Player of the Year in baseball his senior season and earned a baseball scholarship to Elon College. Barrow earned two varsity letters in baseball at Elon before transferring to Bridgewater College and finishing his playing career as a two-year starter behind the plate. In two seasons at Bridgewater, Barrow helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and ODAC conference championship in 1996, as well as an ODAC conference runner-up in 1997.

Barrow is married to the former Megan Fort and the two reside in Greensboro, NC with their son, Devin, and daughter, Lily.  He is also currently pursuing his PhD in Leadership Studies at North Carolina A&T.

Assistant Coach- Brent Haynes

Brent Haynes will enter his second year as an assistant coach for the Titans this season.  He is certainly no stranger to Guilford Tech.  Haynes was the top pitcher for the inaugural Titans' squad in 2008.  His first foray into the coaching ranks exceeded expectations as he directed the Titan pitching corps to school records for wins, team ERA, and overall strikeouts in a season in 2011.

Haynes is a 2006 graduate of Southern Alamance High School in Graham, NC and enjoyed a highly decorated prep career.  He earned All-State honors as a junior and a senior.  The Burlington, NC native earned State Championship MVP honors as he led Southern Alamance to a state title during his junior year.  Haynes also garnered Player of the Year honors his senior season.  He participated in the State Games of North Carolina as both a junior, as well as the East-West All-Star Game as a senior.

Haynes spent one semester at perennial powerhouse Young Harris Junior College after graduation before transferring to NAIA Waldorf College for the spring season.  Haynes found his way home to GTCC for his sophomore season where he logged 55 innings in 13 starts and struck out 38 batters.  Haynes was the first Titan to earn a baseball scholarship at a 4-year college, as he signed with NCAA Division II powerhouse Mt. Olive College in the fall of 2007.  He logged 32 innings over the next two seasons for the Trojans and helped them advance to the NCAA Regionals during his senior season.

Haynes resides in Burlington, NC and earned his degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Mt. Olive College in the fall of 2010.  He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Physical Education at North Carolina A&T.
