Textbook Buyback

We offer daily Textbook Buyback on the Jamestown campus.  We are here Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am through 8:00 pm, and Friday 8:00 -4:00 (Summer Hours).  Buyback is generally closed during the time we are accepting Financial Aid at the beginning of the semester, and when we are closed for inventory the last 3 days in June.  Otherwise, it is always a good idea to call us (336-334-4822 x 50056) to make sure we are buying back books if you are planning to make a special trip to campus to sell your books. We cannot offer information about what textbooks we are buying over the phone, but bring your books in and we will scan them and give you a price.  You will need your student ID or North Carolina Drivers License to sell your books to us.

When is the best time to sell your books? Always at the end of the semester.  At the end of each semester, we have a big buyback on each campus.  Look for signs and an announcement on this website.

How do you decide what books you are buying? We buy books for the Guilford Tech bookstore based on what books are being used the following semester.  If the same edition of your book is being used the following semester and the book does not have any non-reusable parts (like access codes) we will generally buy it back for 50% of the new price.  Reasons we might not buy your book include: we don't know yet what book is being used the following semester, we have already purchased as many of the books as we can use the next semester, the book is going into a new edition, or the book is a workbook that frequently gets written in by students.  Sometimes, instructors specify that they want their students to only buy new books.  If the book is not being used the following semester, we may still be able to buy it for one of our wholesalers, but the price is just whatever the market value of the book is.  The market value of a used book is always less than what we can pay for it if we are buying it for the GTCC bookstores.

Are there any options for buyback if I can't make it out to one of the campuses? Yes, we also offer online buyback through two of our partners, Follett and MBS.
