Curriculum for the 2's program

Our 2's classroom uses a combination of the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers & Twos  and The Creative Curriculum for Preschool as our roadmap.  There is a huge difference in a child that is 25 months old and a child that is 33 months old so we use both curriculums to make sure that we are challenging each child at the level they are at.  Creative Curriculum is a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum that includes goals and objectives for children's learning in all areas of development:  social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language.  The goals and objectives show you where you want to go and the curriculum tells you how to get there.  We also use the Developmental Continuum Assessment System to help us identify and respond to children's changing interests and abilities.  This is a portfolio system that will continue from the infant stages through age 5.  It is very exciting to see the milestones that your child reaches.

The fundamental beliefs of the Creative Curriculum are:

  • Building a trusting relationship with each child
  • Providing responsive, individualized care
  • Creating environments that support and encourage exploration
  • Ensuring children's safety and health
  • Developing partnerships with families
  • Observing and documenting children's development in order to plan for each child and the group
  • Recognizing the importance of social/emotional development
  • Appreciating cultural, family, and individual differences
  • Taking advantage of every opportunity to build a foundation for lifelong learning
  • Supporting dual language learners
  • Including children with disabilities in all aspects of the program

The GTCC Children's Center shares these beliefs.  The Creative Curriculum is based on theory and research.  There is a great deal of evidence to support these beliefs.
