Welcome to Preschool 2!

Hi!  My name is Karen Chesnutt.  I am the lead teacher in the preschool 2 classroom.  I have an associate degree in early childhood education and have been working with children for 18 years.  This classroom is for children 4 and 5 years old who will be going to kindergarten in the fall.  I love all the excitement and challenges my job brings.  We use Creative Curriculum in preparing the children for kindergarten.  My classroom is very literacy based.  All objects are labeled with the name, songs and fingerplays are written out and placed around the room, there is a writing area for the children to practice their early writing skills and a literacy center for the children to work on letter recognition and letter sounds.  I choose three letters for the month and have words and objects that begin with those letters all over the room and incorporate games and other activities with those letters.  Learning to handle difficult situations in an appropriate manner, learning to use manners with each other and while at the table, saying "please" and "thank you" and being respectful of others are just a few other things I incorporate into my classroom.  I want the children in my classroom to leave here being ready for kindergarten excited and ready for that next "big" milestone in their life with confidence and a "can" do attitude.
