Refunds

The College will make a 100% refund of registration fees
if you officially withdraw from class before the first class
meeting and make the request in writing.

The College will refund 75% of the registration fee (of
tuition only) if you officially withdraw from the class on the
first day of class or before the class reaches the census
date. The census date varies from class to class.
To receive a refund, a student must officially withdraw
from class and request a refund in writing.
If a class is canceled or full, GTCC will make a full
refund. If additional information is needed, please contact
the Continuing Education department. Refunds are
processed on a monthly basis. However, please allow 6-8
weeks to receive the refund.

The College refund policy is established by state
legislative action and is subject to change without prior
notice to students. The refund policy stated above was in
effect at the time this catalog was published.

Fees, Books, Supplies

Registration fees, which are listed with each class
description, do not include the cost of textbooks or supplies.
Fees are set by the NC General Assembly and are based on
the number of contact hours for each course. Some of the
courses listed in this catalog require textbooks; textbooks are
sold at the GTCC Bookstores.

You should buy books and supplies at the bookstore of the
campus you will attend. The Jamestown Bookstore is open
Monday - Thursday, 8a-8p, and Friday 8a-4p. The Greensboro
bookstore is open Monday through Thursday, 9a - 7p. and
Friday from 9a-12n. The High Point bookstore is open Monday
through Thursday from 9a-7p and Friday 9a-12n. You can also
buy books online at www.gtcc.bkstr.com.
You must buy any supplies required for a course.
Depending on materials used in the course, a modest fee may
be charged.

Students in all continuing education classes will be assessed
a $5 CAPS fee to help cover expenses associated with
providing campus access, parking and security at the college.
Students can obtain parking stickers at any GTCC Campus
Police office or the cashier's office in Jamestown. Parking
permits (stickers) are valid at all GTCC campuses.
Some programs require malpractice insurance. These fees,
where applicable, are included in the published course fee.
Programs requiring malpractice insurance are Certified Nursing
Assistant and Direct Care Worker.
If you have any questions, call the extension for the class;
the list is to the left of this page.

Message For Teachers

Guilford County school teachers who register for a
course at GTCC for recertification credit are required by
their school system to get prior approval before taking the
course. Certified teachers who are not currently employed
should be certain that the course is appropriate for their
area of certification.

Anyone, not just teachers, may take any course
designated as a "Teacher Recertification" Course.
Teacher recertification credit is available for most
computer courses, as well as any and all courses
approved by the school system, at the rate of one TRC
per 10 hours of instruction for students who attend at least
80% of a course.

Course Repetition Policy

In 1993, the N.C. legislature enacted a law that
requires anyone, including senior citizens, who
takes the same occupational extension course more
than twice within a five-year period to pay $6.50 per
scheduled hour.
Example: CAS 4040 costs $73 first time
CAS 4040 costs $73 second time
CAS 4040 costs $131.80 third time
(20 class hours x $6.80 = $136.00)
These were the fees in effect at the time of printing
and are subject to change without notice.
You are exempt from this policy if you are required
by law to have certification/licensure.

Message For Senior Citizens

The registration fees for one course of noncredit
instruction per academic semester will be waived for
senior citizens age 65 or older who are qualified as legal
residents of North Carolina. If a senior citizen receives
a waiver for a class and then subsequently drops the
course after the first day of class, the waiver is considered
used and cannot be applied to another course.

Senior citizens must pay the cost of self-supporting classes. The
following course codes CSP 4000, SEF 3001, and any
course with 8XXX or 7XXX course number, indicates a
self-supporting class and seniors must pay the registration
fee. Senior citizen registration fee exemption does not
supersede the Course Repetition Policy if the same
occupational extension class is registered for more than
twice in a five year period. Senior citizens are required to
submit a registration form and to purchase any required
supplies or textbooks.

Sponsorships

The purpose of a sponsorship is to help pay college
expenses (tuition, fees, books, and supplies). Sponsors
may include your employer or government agencies
(i.e. Employment Security Commission, Job Link, or
Vocational Rehabilitation).

Each semester, detailed sponsor information
must be received by GTCC. This information may be
mailed, faxed, or brought in person to the Cashier's
Office located in the Luther R. Medlin Campus
Center. Authorizations must be received at the time
of registration. If authorizations are not received at
the time of registration, the student is expected to
pay registration fees. It is the student's responsibility
to make sure the Cashier's Office has received an
authorization for each class. Contact the cashier's
office when you register to ensure your sponsor
information has been received and processed.
GTCC Sponsor Agreement forms can be obtained
from the Cashier's Office.

Authorizations must include the student's name,
identification number (SID and/or last 4 digits of SSN),
and semester to be paid by the sponsor. They must
also be printed on company/agency letterhead, state
the amount of detailed expenses to be paid for each
student being sponsored, and include an agency
representative name and phone number
Bookstore charges may be applied to a
sponsorship only if specified in the sponsor
authorization.
