Summary of the QEP
|
| Title |
| Employability Skills: Reflected and Expected |
| |
| Description of Focus |
| The Quality Enhancement Plan for GTCC seeks to improve its specific measurement of student attainment of the Employability Skills. That is, we seek to validate with more explicitly quantitative measures, the ways in which we meet the workforce preparedness needs of Guilford County by addressing the teaching, learning, and measurement of employability skills. |

| Reasons for Selection |
The topic will specifically address student learning, particularly in the areas already mandated by the institutional-level student competencies, with specific attention to student learning of the employability skills.
The topic addresses “significant issues and aspirations” of the college. Our mission, both as a part of the community college system and as a college, provides for student learning and serves the community’s workforce needs. The GTCC Board of Trustees adopted and the catalog specifies “institutional-level student competencies that support continued education and career growth.”
The identified topic is central to GTCC’s role as an academic community and a member of the Guilford County community: assured preparation of competent, workforce ready students.
The process for developing the QEP engaged the entire college community, beginning with a study of 2002-03 Planning Unit analyzing trends and challenges facing the college, continuing with campus-wide focus groups throughout the 2003 spring semester, and working through continued electronic participation as the QEP theme was narrowed.
The plan can be integrated into the existing college-wide planning process, enabling each department across the college to link specific, measurable goals to the QEP. In addition, the existing planning process provides the means to follow up on specific progress towards meeting objectives.
When integrated into the existing planning process, the theme will produce “specific, well-defined goals related to the issue of substance and depth” and leading to measurable results. Specific, measurable objectives will emerge from each planning unit, and they will be reviewed by the SACS team and Institutional Research and Planning Office to assure their specificity, link to the QEP, and measurability. |
