Can I attend GTCC if I did not graduate from high school or earned only a certificate of completion?
To enroll in a degree, diploma or certificate program, you must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED. You will not be allowed to enroll in a curriculum program until you have earned your Adult High school diploma or GED. Both programs are available at our Greensboro and High Point campuses. Please contact them directly for further information. You may only take classes as a special credit student until the diploma or GED has been earned. Please note: only high school graduates or GED completers are eligible for financial aid.

Is it hard to get into limited enrollment programs?
All of the allied health programs as well as several other programs are considered limited enrollment. This means that there are more applicants than space available. Because of this, these programs have specific minimum requirements that must be completed before an applicant will be considered for admission. Many of these programs are highly competitive and students are encouraged to meet with an admissions representative early in the application process.

Does GTCC keep a waiting list for the limited enrollment programs?
NO. Some of the limited enrollment programs accept students on a first completed, first accepted basis while others use a competitive ranking process. If an applicant is not accepted into their program of choice, they must reapply if they wish to be
considered for the next year’s program.

Does GTCC require students to take the SAT or ACT?
No, these tests are not required for admission. However, the scores can be used to waive placement testing for most programs. If a student scores a 510 Verbal (SAT) or a 21(ACT) English, the writing placement test is waived, a 510 Verbal or a 21 Reading will waive the reading test and a 520 Math or 21 Math will waive the math/Algebra test.

Can I begin taking classes if my transcripts have not been received?
All students must present documentation that they have met the pre-requisites for any class they want to take. The best way to do that is to have your transcript in before registration. It's a good idea to bring at least an unofficial copy or grade report with you if you can when you come to register. However, if you can't provide the documentation you may still go to class. The instructor will require that you bring transcripts in or have them sent during the term.

I submitted an application but now wish to change my major, what do I do?
If you are currently enrolled at GTCC, you may complete a change of major form with a counselor in the Counseling Center. If you have not yet enrolled at GTCC, you may speak with an admissions advisor in the Admissions Office and they will make the change. If you wish to apply for a limited enrollment program, you must complete a new application.
