Admissions Applications Process

Application Process for Degree, Diploma and Certificate Students
1. Submit a GTCC admissions application.
2. Have an official high school or GED transcripts sent to the Admissions Office. GTCC will only recognize high school diplomas from regionally accredited schools or home schools registered with the state of North Carolina. Students not completing such a program must complete the GED or attain an Adult High School diploma through an accredited institution.
3. Have official transcripts of all college course work sent to the Admissions Office.
4. Meet with an admissions advisor to determine which, if any, placement test are required.

Follow specific procedures if applying to a Limited Enrollment program.
 
Application Process for Special Credit (Non Degree Seeking) Students
1. Submit a GTCC admissions application.
Placement testing may be required for specific courses.
2. Bring your transcripts with you and/or have them sent. All students must have documentation that they meet the prerequisites for any course they want to take. The college catalog lists pre-requisites."
 
Currently Enrolled High School/Home Schooled Students
Currently enrolled high school/home schooled students who wish to attend classes at GTCC while still in high school must meet the following criteria:

1. Student must be 16 years of age or older at the time of enrollment.
2. Student must submit a letter from the high school principal indicating that the student has permission to register at GTCC. If home schooled, the card from the Department of Public Instruction certifying the home school is also required.
3. Student may not register for Developmental courses. These courses are not available to currently enrolled high school students. Developmental courses are those number 100 or below.
4. Student may not register until the last day of registration.

Currently enrolled high school/home schooled students do not pay tuition.
 
Non-United States Citizens/International Students
Applicants who hold Resident Alien cards must bring their card to the Admissions Office at the time of application. Proof of North Carolina residency for twelve months prior to admission will also be required for students wishing to be classified as in-state students for tuition purposes.

All applicants seeking a student VISA or currently holding a VISA must contact Malinda Carmon, Counselor/Foreign Student Advisor at extension 2356.
