College Level Examination Program (CLEP)Testing

| What is CLEP/CBT? |
CLEP/CBT offers computer based testing to individuals seeking the opportunity to receive course credit for demonstrating knowledge gained in school, at work, through personal reading and observation, or from one’s life experiences. It is an international program of credit-by-examination that enables individuals to obtain recognition for college-level achievement.
Any of the thirty-four (34) Subject Examinations may be taken at GTCC. |

| What do CLEP exams cost? |
| Each exam at this time costs $70.00. This fee is forwarded to the Educational Testing Service (ETS) upon completion of the exam. GTCC charges a $20.00 administrative fee. The $20 fee is paid to GTCC and the $70 is paid to ETS. These payments must be made separately. The total cost to take a CLEP exam is $90.00. |

| Where can more information be obtained? |
The CLEP information pamphlet, Shorten Your Path To A College Degree, may be picked up from the GTCC Jamestown Campus Assessment Center, Room 217, Medlin Campus Center. The pamphlet provides general CLEP information, including how to obtain study guides for CLEP exams.

| How are CLEP exams scheduled at GTCC? |
Please visit the testing center in Room 217, Medlin Campus Center OR call 336-334-4822 ext. 2299 or 2328 to schedule an appointment to take a CLEP examination. |

| How are CLEP exams administered at GTCC? |
Interested applicants may follow these steps:
1. Report to the CLEP Assessment Center with:
Two forms of identification –a primary ID and a secondary ID.
PRIMARY ID
Current driver’s license (preferred)
Current state or federal ID card
Current passport
Tribal ID card
Naturalization card or certificate of citizenship
SECONDARY ID
Current employee ID
Current student ID
Social security card
Military ID
An unused ID from the primary choices above
NOTE: Calculators and other devices are not allowed.
Leave all preparation and study notes outside the testing site.
Scratch paper will be provided.
2. Credit card or check for payment of tests taken; and
3. Receipt from the Finance Office showing payment of $20.00 administrative fee.
CLEP fee(s) paid will be sent to the Educational Testing Service (ETS) upon completion of exam(s).
CLEP will be scored immediately upon completion of exam and a score report given. The Educational Testing Services in Trenton, New Jersey will send an official score report to you and the institution you designated to receive your score within 2-4 weeks. |

| Which CLEP exams are accepted for course credit at GTCC? |
Any of the thirty-four (34) Subject Exams may be taken at GTCC. Only twenty-six (26) of the Subject Exams, however, may be accepted for course credit at GTCC. (Course credits for College French Levels I and II are determined by one exam, "French Language, College Level". Course credits for College Spanish Levels I and II are determined by one exam, "Spanish Language, College Level". Course credits for the "German Language, College Level" exam are offered for German 111 and German 112 only.)
Upon successful completion of CLEP exam(s) and receipt of your score from the College Board, the appropriate Advanced Standing form will be forwarded from the Dean of Enrollment Management, Admissions and Records to the appropriate department chair for approval.
