GTCC Men's Baseball Staff

Head Coach - John Barrow
John Barrow enters his 3rd year at the helm of the Titans baseball program. Barrow has posted an overall record of 41-54 over the first two years of the program’s existence. Under Barrow’s tutelage, five Titans have garnered All-Region X honors, and 17 Titans have moved on to play at four-year colleges, including four at the NCAA Division I level. In 2009, Barrow saw his first player get taken in the MLB Draft as Titan infielder Jonathan Fernandez was selected in the 34th round by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Barrow is no stranger to building successful baseball programs. He founded the baseball program at Region X rival Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC during the summer of 2000. During his 4-year tenure as head coach, RCC set school records each year for wins. Barrow led the Eagles to a 2nd place finish in the Region X tournament in only the program's second year of existence in 2002. His 2004 team also set school records for team batting average, team hits, team home runs, and team RBI's while producing the program's only winning season to date. That same team also saw 8 players, including its top 4 pitchers, sign scholarships with 4-year programs (including two with NCAA D-I programs). Over twenty players went on from RCC to play at 4-year NCAA and NAIA programs during Barrow's reign, including four at NCAA Division-I institutions. Under Barrow's tutelage, five Eagle players garnered All-Region X accolades.

The Jamestown, NC native graduated from Bridgewater (VA) College in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in English. He earned his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State in 1998. Barrow served as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineers' baseball program during the 1998 season as well. He also served on the baseball staff at NCAA Division I baseball powerhouse Tulane University in New Orleans later that year. He returned home to teach English and coach baseball and football at Morehead High School in Eden, NC up until his hiring at Rockingham Community College in 2000.

The 1992 graduate of Ragsdale High School enjoyed standout prep careers in both baseball and football, garnering All-Conference and All-Guilford County honors in both sports. He was runner-up for the Conference Player of the Year in baseball his senior season and earned a baseball scholarship to Elon College. Barrow earned two varsity letters in baseball at Elon before transferring to Bridgewater College and finishing his playing career as a two-year starter behind the plate. In two seasons at Bridgewater, Barrow helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and ODAC conference championship in 1996, as well as an ODAC conference runner-up in 1997.

Barrow is married to the former Megan Fort and the two reside in Greensboro, NC with their son, Devin. They are expecting a daughter (Lily) due in late October of 2009.
