GTCC Men's Baseball Staff
|
| Head Coach - John Barrow |
Former Ragsdale High School standout John Barrow was chosen to lead the GTCC baseball program in their inaugural season in 2008. That inaugural Titans team finished the season with a 22-23 record in a conference that featured three top-20 NJCAA Division I teams. Barrow’s individual players’ success continued in 2008 as well, as three Titans garnered All-Region X honors and five of the six Titan sophomores moved on to play at the next level.
Barrow is no stranger to building successful baseball programs. He founded the baseball program at Region X rival Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC during the summer of 2000. During his 4-year tenure as head coach, RCC set school records each year for wins. Barrow led the Eagles to a 2nd place finish in the Region X tournament in only the program's second year of existence in 2002. His 2004 team also set school records for team batting average, team hits, team home runs, and team RBI's while producing the program's only winning season. That same team also saw 8 players, including its top 4 pitchers, sign scholarships with 4-year programs (including two with NCAA D-I programs). Over twenty players went on from RCC to play at 4-year NCAA and NAIA programs during Barrow's reign, including four at NCAA Division-I institutions. Under Barrow's tutelage, five Eagle players garnered All-Region X accolades.
The Jamestown, NC native is a 1997 graduate of Bridgewater (VA) College with a Bachelor's degree in English. He earned his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State in 1998. Barrow served as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineers' baseball program during the 1998 season as well. He also served on the baseball staff at NCAA Division I baseball powerhouse Tulane University in New Orleans later that year. He returned home to teach English and coach baseball and football at Morehead High School in Eden, NC up until his hiring at Rockingham Community College in 2000.
The 1992 graduate of Ragsdale High School enjoyed standout prep careers in both baseball and football, garnering All-Conference and All-Guilford County honors in both sports. He was runner-up to the Conference Player of the Year in baseball his senior season and earned a baseball scholarship to Elon College. Barrow earned two varsity letters in baseball at Elon before transferring to Bridgewater College and finishing his playing career as a two-year starter behind the plate. In two seasons at Bridgewater, Barrow helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and ODAC conference championship in 1996, as well as an ODAC conference runner-up in 1997.
Barrow is a member of the American Baseball Coaches' Association and currently resides in Greensboro, NC.

| Assistant Coach - Kevin Jones |
Kevin Jones returns to the GTCC coaching staff for his second year working with the Titans hitters, base runners, and infielders. Five Titan hitters flourished under Jones’ tutelage, posting individual batting averages over .300. Under Jones’ watchful eye, the Titans batted .296 as a team in 2008, as well as averaged six runs and almost nine hits per game. The Titans also stole 71 bases out of 83 attempts as a team last season- good for 2nd place in the league. Defensively, GTCC posted the 6th fewest errors as a team in 2008 as well.
Jones is certainly no stranger to junior college baseball and Region X. Jones served as a two-year starter and team captain at Rockingham Community College coached then by current GTCC head coach John Barrow. A defensive whiz, Jones played shortstop, 2nd base, and 3rd base for the Eagles from 2003-2004. Jones was honored with the Coaches’ Award while at Lander for his hard work for and dedication to the baseball team and was also on the Peach Belt Conference Honor Roll for two straight years.
The 2001 graduate of Eastern Guilford High School enjoyed a stellar prep career. He was a three-sport star at Eastern Guilford High School. He earned All-Conference and All-County accolades in football, basketball, and baseball while at Eastern before committing to play baseball at RCC.

Dustin Holtzman joins the GTCC coaching staff for the ‘08-’09 season, in his first venture into the collegiate coaching ranks. However, he is also no stranger to junior college baseball. Over the course of two seasons at Kirkwood, Holtzman blasted 18 home runs and 32 doubles, while driving in 87 runs.
After two seasons at KCC, Holtzman signed with High Point University and started 52 games his junior year and 59 his senior year on the infield for the Panthers. In his two years at HPU, he belted 5 homers, drove in 47 runs, and committed only 13 errors. Holtzman was also nominated as the “Best Defensive Player in HPU baseball history.”
