Blackboard Basics

90 minutes
This is essential starting point for any faculty or staff member who wishes to use Blackboard as a course resource. Learn how to design the look of your site, load content, create discussion forums, communicate with students and set-up your gradebook. Instructors must request a Blackboard site before the session begins. Please bring your syllabus to this session. (To request a Blackboard site, go to www.gtcc.edu, click For Faculty and Staff then Blackboard Request.

Advanced Blackboard

(Prerequisite Blackboard Basics) 60 minutes
Time to become more interactive with your students using more advanced features of Blackboard. Learn how to use Adaptive Release, Assignment links, linking pools to tests (different questions for each student), using the group features, and more. |

Respondus
|
(Prerequisite Blackboard Basics) 60 minutes
This is a powerful assessment-creation tool that all faculty members can download for free from the GTCC faculty tab in Blackboard. Respondus allows you to create a test for both your online and face-to-face students at the same time. To learn more about Respondus. This session will cover getting started in Respondus to exporting your exam on your Blackboard site. Participants should have at least one Blackboard site to use during training.
Apple Macintosh users can run Respondus using Windows emulation software such as Microsoft's Virtual PC. |

StudyMate

(Prerequisite Blackboard Basics) 60 minutes
This is an easy-to-use, interactive activity creation tool that all faculty members can download for free from the GTCC faculty tab in Blackboard. StudyMate allows you to create activities such as crossword puzzles, flash cards and fill in the blank using three simple templates. To see a complete list of activities and to see them in action, visit the StudyMate website.
This session will cover getting started in StudyMate to exporting your activities on your Blackboard site.
Participants should have at least one Blackboard site to use during training.

AuthorPOINT

(Prerequisite Blackboard Basics) 60 minutes
Limited to 9 participants
If you load PowerPoint presentations to your Blackboard site, then consider becoming an AuthorPOINT fan. AuthorPOINT has been loaded to most of the computers in the Teaching and Learning Lab and the Podcast Recording Studio for all faculty to use. This software allows you to create flash-based presentations using your powerpoint presentation. Narrate your powerpoint with either audio or video then load them easily to your Blackboard site. |

Podcast Recording

Podcasting is changing the way educators are reaching their students. Imagine having the ability to send your students audio and video files that FIND THEM by simply opening a browser. You have the ability to use the recording capabilities here at GTCC to record either audio or video clips and send them to your students. Learn how others are using this technology, record a podcast from beginning to end and distribute it to your students. |
