Applying For Federal Loans

You must request a loan from GTCC - - we will not automatically award a loan to you. You can apply for federal Stafford loan AFTER the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been completed and all follow-up paperwork has been submitted to Enrollment Services.
Note: Students must be enrolled at least six (6) credit hours each semester to apply for and receive a Stafford and or PLUS loan.
NOTE: Beginning with the 2008/09 school year, GTCC will be participating in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Your lender will be the U.S. Department of Education for all loans processed in the 2008/09 year and beyond.

| Returning Students |
Students who were previous borrowers at GTCC can download the loan request form below for the upcoming year, complete and return to Enrollment Services. The FAFSA must be completed and all follow-up paperwork submitted BEFORE you can complete these steps. For the 2008/09 year, you MUST complete a new Master Promissory Note (MPN) before your loan will be processed. | New Students |
| New GTCC Stafford loan applicants (students who have never had a Stafford loan at GTCC) are required to complete the following 4 steps to receive a loan at GTCC. The FAFSA must be completed and all follow-up paperwork submitted to GTCC BEFORE you can complete these steps. |

Step 3: Sign up and Attend Loan Workshop
You can sign up to attend a loan workshop in Enrollment Services or by calling 336-334-4822 ext. 5352.
Sessions are held several times a month. Please check with Enrollment Services for dates and times.
BE SURE to bring form from Step #2 with you to meeting. |

Step 4: Complete Your Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)

| Parent Loans |
PLUS loans are for the parents of our dependent students.
After the FAFSA has been completed and all follow-up paperwork has been submitted, parents can print and complete the PLUS loan request form below and return it to Enrollment Services.

| Asking For Additional Loan Funds |
If you have already applied for a loan in a given semester but need additional funds:
complete the STAFFORD LOAN INCREASE REQUEST FORM and BUDGET WORKSHEET.
These forms can be mailed, faxed or dropped off at the Enrollment Services counter on the second floor of the Medlin Campus Center, Jamestown campus. |

| Graduating or Leaving GTCC? |
All students who receive a student loan at GTCC MUST complete Exit Counseling when they drop below half time, leave the college due to withdrawal or graduate. Click on the link below to complete the requirement online.
If you had a Stafford loan at GTCC prior to July 1, 2008, click on the link below to complete the requirement online.

When you graduate or leave GTCC, you may want to look into consolidating your student loans so you will have one single payment, rather than several payments for different loans or payment to different lenders. For more information on loan consolidation, click on the image below.
