| Exactly what is Professional Development? |
Professional Development includes activities which assist employees in advancing their personal and professional knowledge, competence, skill and behavior. Employees are encouraged to participate in professional development activities which support institutional goals and serve to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the College. Participation in professional development activities which meet individual needs and enhance performance is also strongly encouraged.

| What types of activities count toward professional development? |
Professional development activities may include, but are not limited to, credit and non- credit courses, workshops,seminars, teleconferences, audio-visual materials, grant writing projects, and reading or publishing in journals.

| If I want to attend a conference or workshop, will the Office of Organizational Development pay my fees? |
The Office of Organizational Development has a limited operating budget similar to your department. However, we do manage the Faculty Upgrade Allotment Program (formerly known as Tier A Program), which provides funds for professional development and training opportunities for any full-time or part-time college employee.

If you are interested in facilitating a workshop, please complete and submit the Professional Development Planning Form.

| How can I get a copy of all of the Professional Development Activities I have attended? |
The Office of Organizational Development has records of Professional Development activities in a computer database beginning spring, 2005. There is also the possibility of obtaining paper copies for the 2004 year.

| What is “Caught in the Act of Caring?” |
Caught in the Act of Caring is an Employee Recognition Program designed to acknowledge the exceptional service given by GTCC employees. If you observe a GTCC employee demonstrating excellent customer service towards you, students, visitors or other employees, please complete a Caught in the Act of Caring” card and send to Jackie Greenlee in the Office of Organizational Development or place in the nearest “Caught in the Act of Caring” box.

| What are Lunch – N- Learns? |
unch-n-Learns are one hour interactive presentations or “hands-on” demonstrations offered during the lunch hour. Topics will vary for each session. Feel free to bring your lunch with you! Note: Unfortunately, food and drink are prohibited in the computer labs. Please make other arrangements for your lunch if you plan to attend a session in one of the computer labs.

| Who May Attend Professional Development Classes? |
Professional Development activities are opento all GTCC employees. Employees from any campus may attend classes on any other campuses. Employees who have attended a specific course previously are welcome to attend that same course again at any time, on any campus.

| Can you coordinate specific training for departments or other special requests? |
The Office of Organizational Development will gladly schedule training sessions specifically for departmental or other groups. A representative from the group can contact theoffice by phone or e-mail to schedule training. Generally, a minimum of 10 participants is required. If your group would like a modified version of a current offering, we will try to accommodate that request whenever possible. Please let us know any specifics about your group's training needs as early as possible so we can develop training materials that are appropriate for your needs.

| How do I register for a class? |
It is import that, whenever possible, participants use the online registration system to register for classes they want to take. By registering online, the Office of Organizational Development is able to gauge how many people to expect, which classes are most widely attended and where additional offerings may need to be scheduled.

| What is the Class Cancellation Policy? |
The Office of OrganizationalDevelopment reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes due to low registration or other extenuating circumstances. In general, every effort will be made to avoid canceling classes. However when it is necessary, participants who are registered forthe class will be notified by e-mail as soon as it is possible.

| What if I have recommendations or suggestions for class offerings? |
lease feel free to contact the Office of Organizational Development with any suggestions for classes to be added to the current offerings, changes in times or modifications to existing courses. We will investigate the possibility of offering new
topics at a future date. While we cannot always accommodate every request, many new offerings are a result of employee suggestions.
