Students Educational Rights
|
FERPA defines "Student" as any individual who is or has been in attendance at an institution; and regarding whom the institution maintains education records.
In accordance with FERPA, GTCC affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records.
Those rights are listed below.
The right to inspect and review the student’s education records.
The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records to ensure that they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy or other rights.
The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
The right to file with the U.S. Department of Education a complaint concerning alleged failures by the institution to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
The right to obtain a copy of the institutions student records policy.
The college annually notifies currently enrolled students of their rights through publication in the Student Handbook. Students may obtain a copy of the student records policy in the Admissions and Records Office. Students requesting a review of his or her records must fill out a Request of Records Review form with Admissions and Records.
A 48 hour notice is requested for transcripts that are to be picked-up. Students with outstanding financial obligations to the institution are not eligible to receive copies of transcripts. |
