| Praxis I Test |
The Praxis Series consists of standardized examinations designed to measure the academic proficiencies of students entering or completing teacher education preparation programs and individuals seeking professional certification. Developed and administered by the Educational Testing Service, the Praxis Series assesses knowledge and skills at three levels of proficiency.
Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments measures basic proficiency in reading, mathematics, writing/grammar.
Praxis II: Subject Assessments measures content area knowledge.
Praxis III: Classroom Performance Assessments provides a training and evaluation framework for classroom performance.
PRAXIS I, also known as the PPST (pre-professional skills test) is a required exam for all students planning to enter a teacher education program. GTCC students who are earning an Associate in Arts degree as education pre-majors MUST take and PASS all three sections of the PPST/Praxis I prior to transferring to a four-year college/university teacher education program.
Praxis I study guides are on closed reserve at the main desk in the Learning Resource Center. To review a copy, bring your student ID. Study guides cannot be removed from the library.
Praxis I review software is available in the Testing Center in our Medlin Campus Center of the Jamestown Campus. You must make reservations for a computer with the Praxis software. Please call the Testing Center (Assessment Center) at 334.4822 x 2672 for reservations.
The reserved sections of ENG 111, ENG 112, MAT 140 and EDU 216 for education pre-majors
will help prepare you for the Praxis I exam.
Praxis review sessions (esp. for the math section) will be offered on campus as well. Watch for more details!
