Guilford Technical Community College has a rich tradition of meeting the needs of its community. The Guilford County School System must hire over 500 teachers each year. In response to the need for teachers, GTCC has committed to developing and offering programs in the area of teacher education through its Teacher Education Academy.

The purpose of the GTCC Teacher Education Academy is to help address the critical shortage of teachers in our county and surrounding areas by offering quality alternative teacher education programs in partnership with our county’s senior educational institutions. GTCC offers two routes for teacher education.
The Teacher Education Network assists and supports students who are planning a career in education to successfully complete an AA degree as an education pre-major at GTCC and transition seamlessly to a four-year partner educational institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in a teacher education program.
The Lateral Entry Program offers courses for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree at least five years ago and who are currently teaching with a lateral entry license in the Guilford County School System.
