  STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION GUIDE

There are five steps to complete in order to apply for the eDegree program at GTCC.

1. Submit your online application through the College Foundation of North Carolina:

http://www.cfnc.org/onlineapps/info_onlineapps.jsp

This website allows you to complete your GTCC application for admission and your FAFSA application for financial aid.

NOTE: Current GTCC students and those who have attended GTCC within the last 3 years do not need to reapply to the college.

2. Complete our online questionnaire.

This questionnaire gives you a chance to explore the requirements of the eDegree program while testing your computer skills.

Online students need to feel comfortable on the computer. You need the ability to download software, attach documents to emails and post messages on discussion boards.

3. Complete appropriate Placement Testing OR submit your SAT/ACT scores.

Students in these programs complete a set curriculum to receive a guaranteed spot in these courses.

Because GTCC does not currently offer developmental reading or writing courses online, students in the associate degree programs must not require any developmental courses in these areas, and students must place into MAT-070 or higher since lower-level math courses are not offered online.

This means that to be in the associate degree programs, students must achieve minimum scores on the Placement Test or the SAT/ACT. The scores needed are shown at right.

In addition, students applying to the Medical Transcription program must take a keyboarding test and should be able to type at least 45 words or more per minute with a maximum of 3 errors on a 3-minute timing with keys covered. Students who do not meet this requirement should take OST-131 Keyboarding before starting the program.

4. Submit an official copy of your high school transcripts or GED scores to the GTCC Admissions office at PO Box 309, Jamestown, NC 27282.

If you attended other colleges before applying to GTCC, you must request an official copy of these transcripts be sent to our Admissions office.

5. Complete Reboot Camp, the eDegree Program's online orientation course.

To get started in Reboot Camp, go to http://online.gtcc.edu/moodle/public/login/index.php
and follow instructions for setting up an account, making sure you enter your last name where it asks for your surname. Current GTCC students should note that Reboot Camp is on a different server than our curriculum classes. Make sure you use the above link and set up an account--the user id and password you use to access your classes won't work.

Once you set up an account, you’ll need to select the course, Reboot Camp, from the eLearning course category (on the right) and self-enroll. View this video if you need help: http://screencast.com/t/NlnPSPorF.

If you use Road Runner, the activation email may be blocked by Road Runner's spam filters. If this happens, please contact eLearning to activate your account.

Work through the activities in Reboot Camp and take the quizzes. Once you have completed the final quiz, you’ll be able to access a certificate indicating you successfully completed the course, and the eDegree coordinator will be notified.

Once you have completed these five steps, the eDegree program coordinator or an advisor will contact you regarding your program admission status and next steps.
