COMPASS - ACT
GTCC uses the Computerized-Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support Services (COMPASS) test developed by American College Testing (ACT).
The following specific tests are used for placement into entry level courses at GTCC:
1) Reading - ACT COMPASS
2) Writing - ACT COMPASS
3) Mathematics - ACT COMPASS.
Students have two options for taking the placement test.
1. Come to GTCC.
Test scores are processed in our system within 24 hours.
2. Visit one of the other 57 community colleges to take your placement tests and request your scores to be sent to GTCC. Please allow 7 business days for this process to be completed.

Placement testing is offered on a walk-in basis daily at the Jamestown Campus and at the Greensboro and High Point campuses on specific days throughout the year.
Students are encouraged to review their reading, writing, and math skills before arriving for the test.

How to take the Placement Test:
1. Check the Assessment Center hours to find a date and time that works for you.
2. Come to the Admissions Office located on the Jamestown campus to obtain a COMPASS card.
