We would like to invite students to participate in a fun contest to meet people from other cultures and learn something about those cultures as well. To do this, we have created a passport. You will need to pick up the passport at the Bookstore on the Jamestown campus. You can pick one up during normal Bookstore hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m., M-Th, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., F) from Monday, November 7, until Tuesday, November 15. (Note: Passports will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The supply of passports is limited.) You will fill up your passport with "stamps." These "stamps" will consist of three things: 1. Name of the person contacted 2. The GTCC e-mail address of the person contacted (that is, _______@gtcc.edu) 3. One thing you learned about that person or that person's country NOTE: These names and addresses will be verified to determine the winner. These are the "stamps" you will need to complete by interacting with a person: 1. From any African country 2. From India 3. From Japan 4. From a European country 5. From Canada 6. From Mexico 7. From a South American country 8. From an Asian country 9. From Texas 10. Of the Muslim faith 11. Of the Jewish faith 12. Of the Buddhist faith You can work on this project from the time you pick up the passport through International Education Week. You will need to turn the completed passport in at the Bookstore by noon on Friday, November 18. The winners will be contacted the following week. Please be sure to include your name, GTCC e-mail address and a phone number in the space provided on the inside front cover of the passport. If you are a winner, we will use this information to notify you. All completed entries will be placed in a drawing. There will be three prizes. • First prize: $100.00 • Second prize: a GTCC sweatshirt • Third prize: a GTCC T-shirt
To celebrate International Education Week, the Internationalizing the Curriculum Committee sponsored a photography exhibition open to all members of the GTCC community - students, faculty, and staff. The physical display of photos in the Learning Resource Center on the Jametown campus includes narratives describing the photographs below. Due to space contraints, the descriptions of these online images include the name of the person who submitted the photo, their position at GTCC or course of study, and the country or culture depicted.
