WaysToGive

The Guilford Technical Community College Foundation

is a resource for everyone on campus: students, faculty and staff. We provide scholarships for students and grants for the faculty/staff. The more successful our fundraising efforts are, the more funds we have available to allocate for campus support. Although our primary fundraising occurs on campus in October, we will happily accept donations of any size at any time. To make a donation, give us a call at x50310 or use the donation form. We appreciate your support and your generosity.

SCHOLARSHIPS & FUNDS

Scholarships

Even the most affordable post-secondary education is sometimes out of reach financially for some of our most promising and motivated students. In recent years, our ever-increasing enrollment and the slowdown in the economy have escalated the need for scholarships.

To ensure cost is not a barrier to worthy students, the Foundation awards scholarships to cover the cost of CTCC tuition and fees. The Foundation currently maintains approximately 100 scholarships to support students in various areas of study. Donors can choose to contribute to a specific scholarship or to the general scholarship fund.

Endowed Scholarships

For an investment of $15,000, donors can establish a named endowed scholarship which will provide assistance in perpetuity. As only the interest on the endowment is used to fund the scholarship, the endowment remains as a lasting tribute of your generosity to our students.

Endowed Teaching Chairs

A donation of $100,000 can be designated to establish an Endowed Teaching Chair, which is then awarded to a distinguished faculty member in recognition of her/his academic excellence and achievement. The interest generated by the endowment provides funding to be used to support the faculty member in innovative teaching projects, attendance at seminars, learning sabbatical in industry, advanced course work in the her/his subject area, or other academic development opportunities.

Equipment and Academic Support

Unfortunately, the public funding GTCC receives is not adequate to acquire and maintain the equipment and systems our students will encounter in today's workplace. To make our students proficient in the technology they will use after graduation, private financial support is critical.

Professional Development

The Foundation helps underwrite GTCC's ongoing efforts to enable faculty to stay current on workplace technology and practices, and maintain excellence in teaching, programming and operations. Your donations can help support the professional development of our faculty and staff.

Unrestricted Donations

Undesignated gifts allow the Foundation to apply the funds to the greatest areas of need the College is experiencing at any given time.

Friends of the Cline Observatory

GTCC has the distinction of being the only community college in North Carolina with its own observatory. The observatory serves as a resource to the community and is supported in part through donations to the GTCC Foundation. For more information, please visit the Cline Observatory website.

Memorial and Honorary Gifts

A gift in memory of or in honor of a friend or loved one is more than an expression of love and respect; it's a meaningful way to honor a life with a gift that continues to benefit others. Any contribution, whether outright or planned, can be designated as a memorial or honorary gift. The Foundation will be glad to assist donors in choosing an appropriate commemorative designation for any gift.

LEAVE A LEGACY

Are you considering leaving a legacy that will be part of the difference GTCC will make for the future of Guilford County? Here are a few ideas for how such financial support might be structured:

Planned Giving

A Planned Gift is any charitable gift structured to optimize a person's tax, financial, and/or estate plans. This powerful philanthropic vehicle offers many benefits to a donor -- tax savings, increased income, and the opportunity to increase assets -- while at the same time assisting GTCC.

A planned gift allows a donor to support GTCC while deferring to a later time the actual transfer of the donated assets. Planned gifts are often made through one or more of the following planned gift vehicles:
• A provision in one's will for cash, securities, stock, or real property
• Life income gifts such as annuities, Remainder Unit Trusts, Annuity Trusts, or Lead Trusts
• Pooled Life Income Fund
• Qualified Retirement Plans
• Life Estate Contracts

Please consult your financial or legal advisor for assistance in including GTCC in your planned giving.

Life Insurance

Designating the College as the death beneficiary of a life insurance policy is an easy, direct way to make a future gift to GTCC. This can be accomplished through your insurance agent or corporate benefits office. In addition, whole-life insurance policies may be donated; the Foundation accepts these on a case-by-case basis.?

To discuss a gift of insurance, please call the Foundation at 336 334-4822 ext. 50040 or ext. 50427.

Retirement Plans

Under current retirement plan regulations, you may name GTCC as a residual beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(B), TIAA-CREF, KEOGH, VALEC or other retirement plan or corporate benefits program accumulation. Careful planning is essential, so please consult your retirement plan administrator, fund custodian, financial advisor or attorney to discuss how to include GTCC as a Plan beneficiary.??
