Who
may use this e-mail service?
This service is intended
to support the research and information needs of GTCC faculty, staff and students.
In responding to requests, priority will be given to those affiliated with GTCC.
For those not affiliated with GTCC, we can only answer questions pertaining
to the GTCC Library's collection.
What
types of questions are appropriate for this service?
Brief, factual questions
or guidance about choosing and finding appropriate information sources, such
as:
- Telephone numbers or
addresses
- A definition of a
term or where to find it.
- Questions
about GTCC Library services or collections.
- How
can I connect to a library database from my home computer?
- Suggestions
on where to begin research on a particular topic.
- What
library databases or other resources would be helpful for my research
paper?
- How
do I perform a basic search on the library's catalog or a library database?
- Where
can I find a book review?
- How
can I find out what full text journals are available?
- How
do I cite a particular resource either MLA or APA style?
- Can
I make an appointment with a librarian for help on a project?
For
more complex questions that require extensive research, it is best to
come in person to the Reference Desk.
What
types of questions or requests are NOT appropriate for this service?
- For questions regarding
the borrowing and returning of library materials such
as: loan and renewal periods for books and videos, overdue
notices or payment of library fines, or checking
out material on Reserve, please contact
the Circulation
Desk at ext. 2292.
- We cannot mail or hold
books, magazines, or other library materials for you.
- Questions that require
us to interpret information for you. We cannot do your homework
or research for you.
- Questions that require
extensive research (it is best to come in person for this type of help).
- Questions that require
an immediate response.
- Medical, legal, or tax
advice or genealogical questions.
What
if my question is complex or requires extensive research?
For more complex questions
that require extensive research, it is best to come in person to the Reference
Desk or give us a call.
When
will I receive a response?
This service is available
during the semester and excludes holidays, weekends and Christmas break. Typically,
you will receive a response within 24 hours during regular business hours (Monday
- Friday).
What
should I do if I need an answer right way?
For questions that require
an immediate response, it is best to come in person to the Reference Desk or
give us a call. .
Do
I need an e-mail address?
If you do not have an e-mail
address, please provide us with your phone number. If you prefer a reply by
e-mail, make sure you give us your correct e-mail address.
