1st Year - Dental hygiene
The first year student becomes familiar with orofacial anatomy, is introduced to the concepts of infection control and asepsis and begins to learn about the dental hygiene process of care which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The student learns intraoral radiographic principles, exposes radiographs, practices instrumentation skills on each other and becomes familiar with dental office emergencies and how to manage them. The first year concludes with students seeing actual clinical patients from the community, usually beginning in March.
