MORE ABOUT ME

I'd like to share just a little personal information with you so that you will know me better. My work history includes more than 25 years as a professional in the Human Resources field. I started out as a secretary in a small Human Resources office. Over time I realized that completing my bachelor's degree would make a big difference to my career. But that degree didn't happen overnight--it took 23 years and attendance at several colleges. A year after finishing my bachelor's degree I started my master's degree and completed it in 14 months. If you've been delaying your education, or think you will never get through college, I hope this gives you the knowledge that you can do it. And yes, I raised a son and worked full-time while completing my education. It's tough but perserverance will pay off!

To further differentiate myself in my field I earned two professional certifications that I have the honor of using in my professional signature. I am certified by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and WorldatWork, the international organization for benefits and compensation professionals, as a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).

I was widowed 6 years ago and found myself evaluating my life. I decided that the long corporate hours, although they provided a good salary, were not providing me with the balanced life and peace that I wanted. As I looked at options to improve the quality of my life I realized that the part of my career I enjoyed the most involved teaching. I began teaching at Forsyth Tech, then moved to Greensboro and here I am full-time at GTCC enjoying my life and learning from you! Yes, everyday my students teach me and that's exciting.

When I'm not teaching I spend a lot of time in my garden, go to the movies every chance I get, read, do some Human Resource consulting, entertain my friends and neighbors, and play with my friends children. My son is an adult living in Virginia Beach and working in retail. I have a 9 year old granddaughter in Charlotte who has ridden horses since she was 3 years old and wins a blue ribbon nearly every time she competes. I think she's a "natural" since her mother started riding at age 7.

My latest passion is "civility." I've become concerned about how we treat each other. It seems that everyday manners and respect for individuals has just about disappeared. One of my latest reads is Dr. Forni's "Choosing Civility: The 25 Rules of Considerate Conduct."
