Classes are open at Guilford Technical Community College's High Point and Greensboro campuses for adults who want to improve their basic educational skills. The program also assists adults whose first language isn't English, according to Stephany Cousins, director of basic skills on GTCC's High Point campus. Spring semester classes have started but classes are open entry so that students can enter at any time, according to Cousins. The Basic Skills program is a program for adults who want to strengthen their basic reading, writing and math skills, Cousins said. "Courses prepare students to take the five-part General Educational Development (GED) tests. The five tests include language arts-writing, language arts-reading, social studies, science and math," she said. Adults, whose first language is not English, can improve their speaking, listening, writing, reading and English comprehension skills, she added. To begin, new students must attend an orientation and placement testing session prior to registration. Orientation sessions are offered weekly at the High Point and Greensboro Campus locations. Additional information is available by calling the High Point campus at 454-1126, Ext. 55066 or the Greensboro campus at 454-1126, Ext. 53107. # # # # Contact: ROBurchette@GTCC.edu Released: 1/12/12
