GTCC’s Bobby Allison Garners Second Coach of the Year Award

JAMESTOWN - In his second year as coach of the Guilford Technical Community College 's Lady Titans, Bobby Allison claimed his second consecutive coach of the year award in Region X of the Virginia-Carolinas Conference.

Allison's team compiled a 27-5 record, which comes on the heels of GTCC's 29-3 record during his inaugural season.

Allison's all-time record as a women's basketball coach stands at 271-27. He won five regional titles in even years as coach at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY, before coming to GTCC. He also took his teams to five Final Fours and three national championship games.

GTCC's women's team lost to Patrick Henry Community College, 72-70, in the conference tournament championship game. That was an overtime thriller that ended in a 60-60 tie in regulation play at Lenoir Community College in Kinston on Sunday (March 6).

Allison also was a player at Mohawk Valley, playing under present GTCC athletic director and men's coach Phil Gaffney.

GTCC players Jessica Watkins, Jeanette Oxner and Asia Wheeler were selected for the All-Region team this season.

The Lady Titans had the most players on the Academic All-Region team, with Toreonna Hardy, Jessica Hill, Shaunese Crawford and Asia Wheeler among the nine honorees on that team.
