JAMESTOWN -Guilford Technical Community College's enrollment for the fall semester is on a pace to reach a record of more than 15,000 students, according to Dr. Alison Wiers, associate vice president of student learning and success.
The school had a record enrollment of 13,520 last fall, and bettered that mark with an enrollment of 13,594 for spring 2010.
Final day for registration will be Aug. 12, with classes beginning Aug. 16.
Wiers said the college has prepared for a 15 percent jump in enrollment over last fall's registration. "We have more than 11,000 students enrolled, about 27 percent over last year," she said. The 11,110 students registered through July 17 is a dramatic increase over the record pace of 8,739 during the same period a year ago.
"We have 10 new student orientation sessions scheduled for the next few weeks which will bring in close to 300 students per session," Wiers said.
"Class offerings have been increased by 25 percent in all areas and we have expanded weekend and evening class offerings. We have had to hire additional faculty to fill the increased class schedules," she said.
This marks the 13th consecutive year that GTCC has increased enrollment for the fall semester. Enrollment was 6,244 students 13 years ago.
