GTCC Honors' Program Includes State Academic Excellence Awards

JAMESTOWN - Rusty Lowder of Greensboro and Gloria Russell of Archdale were named winners of the N.C. Community College System Academic Excellence Awards at Guilford Technical Community College's spring honors program held recently at the Koury Hospitalities Career Center auditorium.

Lowder and Rusell graduated May14 and both were earlier named national Coca-Cola Scholarship winners. Lowder, originally from Albemarle, is a pre-engineering student who will enroll in a four-year college. Russell, who grew up in Canada, will pursue a career in nursing.

Also recognized were GTCC students who were selected recently for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. They are Tanya Beatty, Kourtney Behe-Scherzer, Kenneth Norman and Kathleen Scherzer, all of Greensboro; William Cunningham of Charlotte, Samantha Cummings of Thomasville, Shannon Sugg of Kernersville and Mariam Yassin of High Point.
