GTCC ORGANIZING  MULTIPLE TEAMS FOR MAY 21 WALK TO RAISE $320,000

GREENSBORO - Guilford Technical Community College employees on three campuses are trying to organize teams of students, staff and faculty to participate in "The Start! Guilford Heart and Stroke Walk" that will be held May 21 at Country Park, 3110 Forest Lawn Drive in Greensboro.

GTCC will form at least two teams at the Greensboro campus and at least one team in Jamestown and one in High Point.

Staff contacts for GTCC participants are April Wright at 334-4822, Ext. 2413, and Valerie Daniel at 334-4822, Ext. 2095. Wright said, "We are looking for as many volunteers as we can get to help with this worthy event. We can form more teams if we can get enough volunteers.

"We need to hear from our campus community as soon as possible so we can determine how many teams from GTCC can help with this project."

Across the county, 4,000 walkers are needed as the Guilford unit of the American Heart Association tries to raise $320,000. The Guilford chairman for the event is Steve Fleming, CEO at Well-Spring Retirement Community.

Wright said, "We aren't walking merely to be walking. This walk is for a great cause, one that helps save lives. The mission of The American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Walking is a great way to become healthier."

The heart association says that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans.
