GREENSBORO - An open house will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday (May 22) at Guilford Technical Community College's Greensboro campus, 3505 E. Wendover Avenue. The event, scheduled for the Technical Education Center, will be open to the public; and is designed especially for students and their families interested in engineering and industrial systems technology. The purpose of the event is to inform and recruit students, particularly under- represented groups such students of color and women in science technology and engineering mathematics, according to Manuel Dudley, dean of the Greensboro campus. Representatives of the civil/mechanical engineering and industrial systems technology will be on hand to answer questions about programs available. Terence Garraway, department chair for civil engineering, said that there will be lab tours, demonstrations, a discussion of careers and college transfer options; and an opportunity to speak with faculty members. Garraway planned the event. Programs offered by GTCC, leading to an Associate Degree, include architectural technology, civil engineering, electrical engineering with a concentration in RF technology; and mechanical engineering with concentrations in CAD support/drafting and designing. According to Dudley, students earning a two-year degree in one of these engineering programs can transfer to NC A&T or to UNC-Charlotte and earn four-year degrees. ####
