IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO BE STRESSED IN GTCC SPEECH

JAMESTOWN - GTCC's Communication and Foreign Language Department is making an effort to get students to understand that the social media affects their employability, according to communications instructor Amanda Melniczek.
That is expected to be part of the message from inspirational speaker Mitch Miles of Greensboro when he speaks at the college on Wednesday (Feb. 15).  The session will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Sears Applied Technologies Building. He will speak on "Social Media and Your Professional Brand."
The event is free and open to the public.

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social media sites are more important to students than just something to check during class, Melniczek noted. "We are excited to have Mitch speak to our students. It will be beneficial for our students to learn the role social media plays in the job search process," Melniczek said.

Miles, founder and CEO of The 26.2 Group, has worked for nearly 18 years in various executive leadership positions including a Fortune 500 company, large nonprofit organization, mega-church and a number of small entrepreneurial companies.  He has lead trainings in the areas of social media, creative branding, and client/employee engagement.  His clients consider him a strategic connector and powerful communicator, Melniczek said.

Miles will have a question and answer session.
He earned his undergraduate degree at UNC-Charlotte and a master's degree at Southwestern Theological Seminary. He has been a part-time instructor in social media at GTCC since 2009.

The 26.2 Group is a coaching, training and professional speaking organization dedicated to the areas of personal/professional growth, social marketing strategies and client/employee engagement.
