JAMESTOWN - Tours and demonstrations showcasing the fields of astronomy, biotechnology, chemistry and physics will be led by the science faculty of Guilford Technical Community College on Friday, Sept. 17.
The free event, which will be held on the Jamestown campus, is part of the N.C. Science Festival, a statewide multi-day effort focusing on science and technology.
Schedule of events at GTCC:
• Biotechnology (two sessions), 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. in lobby of Hassel Health Technologies Building. There will be a tour of this building which has state-of-the- art research equipment for microbiology, cell culture and genetics courses. Instructors will answer questions, provide information on the biotechnology program at GTCC and talk about biotechnology opportunities in the state.
• Chemistry/Physics (two sessions), 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. in lobby of Science Hall. Faculty will present chemical demonstrations and hands-on experiments.
• Astronomy, 7-8 p.m. Participants will meet at Cline Observatory for walking tour of GTCC's Sidewalk Solar System. This will be followed by observing at Cline Observatory until 10 p.m., weather permitting.
