NEW PLAY WORKSHOP TO RUN WITH TWO SHOWS APRIL 27-30
JAMESTOWN - The14th annual New Play Workshop at Guilford Technical Community College Theatre will open Wednesday (April 27) and run each evening through Saturday (April 30).
Two world premiers will be presented beginning at 8 p.m. each evening in the Fine Arts Theatre at the Koury Hospitality Careers Center. Tickets are $12 for the general public; $10 for senior citizens; $8 for GTCC employees; and $7 for all students. Reservations can be made by calling 334-4822, Ext. 2496.
Plays to be presented include "Someone You Know" by Jini Zlatniski, who has been active with City Arts of Greensboro and Greensboro's Playwrights' Forum. This chilling story of a serial killer will be directed by Michael J. Kamtman.
Also scheduled is "Handsome Devil" by Jason Roland, who has had several of his plays presented in Lexington. Roland's play is a Southern Gothic tale set in a boardinghouse in the 1930s where there are some very special guests.
Kamtman, who heads the GTCC drama program, said, "Every year we bring local playwrights, usually two, to work with our students to develop new plays. This gives the playwrights the rare opportunity to hear their plays read out loud from the earliest phases of development and to utilize the additional inspiration of actors' creative impulses."
