STAN TURBEVILLE IS NAMED GTCC MARKETING DIRECTOR
JAMESTOWN - Stan Turbeville of Jamestown has been named marketing and communications director at Guilford Technical Community College, and already has assumed his duties.
Turbeville, 40, replaces Debra Auman of High Point, who resigned last April.
He has 11 years experience in marketing, including communications, market research, product management, copywriting, event management and web site management.
Turbeville's last position was with Volvo Trucks North America in Greensboro where he was marketing communications and operations manager for four years and four months. Before going to Volvo, Turbeville was manager of marketing and product planning at Douglas Battery Manufacturing Co. in Winston-Salem for more than five years. He is a graduate of East Carolina University's College of Business, and also has a master's degree in technical and marketing communications from ECU. Turbeville has a master's degree in marketing from High Point University.
"I've always felt comfortable in an academic setting since childhood. My heart is in education. I would even like to do some teaching here (at GTCC)," he said. He was a graduate assistant at ECU and taught for a semester at Central Carolina Community College.
Turbeville grew up on a tobacco farm in Robinson County. "My father died when I was nine, and I worked my way through college," he said.
He and his wife Cherri have two daughters, Abby, 7, and Emme, 3. They moved here from Sanford nearly 14 years ago. Turbeville worked with the Sanford Herald before going to work for DAR/RAN Furniture Co. in Trinity as director of corporate communications in 1996.
"My vision for the residents of Guilford County and the surrounding area is that they know that GTCC is a resource for everyone, literally in every walk of life," Stan Turbeville said. "It is a place that presents opportunities to enrich their lives. We also want to communicate the wonderful student experiences available here," he said.
Turbeville likes GTCC being a place where both college degrees and technical training are available. This is a "good fit" for his interest in education and his experience in industry, he said. ### #
