JAMESTOWN - Three major awards were presented recently by the outgoing Student Government Association at Guilford Technical Community College.

The recipients were:

-- Shannon Sugg of Kernersville, who was named the Carol B. Rose Representative of the Year. This award goes to a representative who goes "above and beyond the call of duty." She assisted in both the SGA office and the college's tutoring center.

-- Margot Horney of Greensboro, who received the "Golden Thank You" award. Horney, coordinator of resource development and alumni affairs for the GTCC Foundation, was cited for going "above and beyond" her duties to help the SGA. Horney, who has worked for the foundation for eight years, has consistently been a supporter of SGA activities and other student projects. The award goes to a faculty or staff member each year.

-- Mariam Yassin of High Point, who was named winner of the $1,000 Ray Moody Scholarship. She was vice-president of special events for the SGA, president of the International Student Association, a student marshal and a student Ambassador. Yassin also was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and was selected to attend the N.C. Student Leadership Institute.
