Three JobsNOW Classes to Begin September 28th at GTCC

GREENSBORO - Three new programs designed to provide unemployed or underemployed workers training for new jobs within six months will begin Sept. 28 at Guilford Terchnical Community College's Greensboro campus, 3505 E. Wendover Avenue.

The training is part of Gov. Beverly Perdue's JobsNOW 12-in-6 program.

The programs are:

  • Medical Administrative Assistant -- 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Sept. 28 through April 19, 2010. Students must complete the following courses: Medical Receptionist, Electronic Medical Records, Health Insurance Billing and Coding, HRD: Workplace Competency and Career Readiness Certificate Training.
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician Training - 12:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Sept. 28-Jan. 29, 2010. Courses required are Industrial Maintenance Level ISC 3138, Industrial Maintenance Level ISC 3138A, HRD: Workplace Competency and Career Readiness Certificate Training.
  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Certification Training - Sept. 28-May 3, 2010, Monday through Friday at varying times between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Courses to be completed are Blueprint Reading, CNC Turning Activity, CNC Milling Activity, Introduction to CNC Activity, Machine Process Activity, Basic CAD and Metrology Activity, HRD: Workplace Competency and Career Readiness Certificate Training.

These are among six JobsNOW courses being offered at GTCC. There are pre-requisites for each program, including being a high school diploma or having a GED certificate.

Other programs include Green Weatherization, which will begin at a later date; and a short- term welding course which began last month on the Jamestown campus.

Additional training will be provided in the Nurse Assistant I program, which will be offered on the Jamestown, Greensboro and High Point campuses. Dates for those classes are expected to be announced soon. These classes will be repeated through Oct. 31, 2010.

Persons successfully completing the JobsNOW program will be awarded a Career Readiness Certificate, a Workforce Readiness Certificate and a training specific certificate which will detail the skills acquired.

Financing for the training courses is coming from the $300,000 allocated to the college under the governor's plan for the state community colleges to train workers within six months or less. These funds are provided through the N.C. Dept. of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development and the local Workforce Development Board.
