Blooms All Year

This course shows the student every plant (except annuals) that blooms in the Triad, in bloom and bloom time. We will cover: days to bloom/length of bloom; plant placement for optimum enjoyment of color and fragrance; trees , shrubs and perennials for intermittent display; annuals for longest color display. No supplies needed.

Furniture Refinishing

Students bring in a small piece of wooden furniture. They must be able to transport the piece to each class, as the school does not store projects. Supply list for each project will be discussed in first meeting. Students will need to actually finish the piece at home, but can strip, sand and make small repairs during class meetings.

Window Treatment

Students are encouraged to bring photos of problem windows on flash drive or CD to allow class discussion. Students will leave class with window treatment ideas to finish one room (more if time allows). This is not a sewing class, but construction methods will be discussed. Room photos will help in determining the students' needs. No books/materials required.

Furniture Reupholstery

Learn how to reupholster chairs, sofas, and other pieces of fine furniture. Learn how to sew cushions, skirts, and all covers for re-upholstery; how to re-tie and tie springs; how to brace the frame; and how to secure the webbing. Also included will be fabric layout and cutting, some techniques of refinishing the legs, and favbric patterns and styles. Bring to the first class: a pair of regular pliers and a tack puller(can be purchased at a hardware store) and a "small project" (footstool, dining room chair etc. ) and fabric. A list of other needed tools will be provided at the first class (approximate cost $40 - $60).

Interior Design

This course is designed to give the students the basic skills to execute an in-home project. I D involves more than just colors, textures and patterns. It connects people to spaces where you live, learn and play. Upon completion, this class will provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to re-decorate your own interior space. No textbook required.
