Philosophy of teaching: As an associate
professor at a community college, I believe it is my responsibility
to see students as individuals and to help them move from where
they are to the next level in mathematics. I attempt do this by
assisting learners to recognize that with persistence and hard work
they can achieve their dreams. By evaluating my methods regularly
and trying to be aware of my students' strengths and weaknesses, I
believe this will help me accomplish my goal.
Recognizing that students have different learning styles, I need
to use a variety of methods and strategies when I teach. This
includes having students do math while 1) interacting with peers of
different dominate learning styles in a group, 2) using computer
programs, for example MyMathLab or Web Advisor to allow students
immediate feedback as well as assistance in completing homework or
3) discovering through use of activities.
Preparing students to meet their goals means I am obligated to
help them be workforce prepared. This includes expecting students
to dress, speak and write appropriately in my class. They are to be
respectful of other members of the class, not receive or send
telephone calls, text messages, or pages during class and are
expected to attend all classes unless officially excused.
At GTCC I can usually be found in the Sears Applied Tech Building
on the third floor in office 352 when I'm not teaching or in AT
331, the math lab. Office hours are 9:00AM-9:50AM Monday-Thursday
and 12;00 - 12:30 Tuesday and Thursday or by
appointment by emailing or calling me.
