Dental Assisting is a one-year diploma curriculum that begins each fall semester. It is a limited enrollment program in which applicants must meet minimum requirements by the specific deadline date to be considered for admission. Please note that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements must meet with an admissions advisor for completion of a Dental Assisting Minimum Admissions Requirements (MAR) review. This must be completed by the deadline date, February 2nd, 2012. Applicants denied admission must re-apply, and complete a new MAR and Ranking if they wish to be considered for the Fall 2012 program.
The following steps must be completed by February 2nd, 2012.
When all minimum requirements are met, qualified applicants are ranked using a points system. This process must be completed with an Admissions Advisor by February 3rd, 2011. The components of the ranking system include the following items:

Breanne Clements Admissions Advisor GTCC reserves the right to change curriculum and admissions requirements without prior notice.
An applicant must have a grade of "C" or better in any course with a DEN prefix and BIO 106 to enter into the Dental Assisting program. Students may have a grade of "D" in a general education course and still enter and graduate from the Dental Assisting program. However, a grade of "D" in a general education course will not transfer to another institution, nor will GTCC accept a grade of "D" in a general education course for credit from another institution.
If a student earns a grade of "D" in BIO 106 prior to acceptance into the program, the student must repeat and successfully complete the course with a grade of "C" or better. If a student is accepted into the Dental Assisting program while enrolled in the repeated course, official acceptance is contingent upon successful completion by the end of the spring semester. You will be notified by mail if your acceptance has been revoked.
As health care providers, the primary professional obligation is service to the public. Patients have the right to expect and receive quality care regardless of his/her circumstance and medical condition. All students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy.
Infection control guidelines in the dental department have been developed to protect the student and the patient from disease transmission. All students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy.
A student in the dental program is at an increased risk for exposure to a variety of diseases, among them Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Because of these risks, students will be expected to follow all infection control/exposure control guidelines that have been established.
