GTCC Substitute Program

We will NOT be enrolling new students for the fall 2012 semester. Please return to this site Spring 2013 for information about our next class.

If you have already successfully completed EDU 119, 146 and 153, and are interested in joining the GTCC Child Care Substitute Program, please email:

Joanie Oliphant, Program Coordinator    email: jkoliphant@gtcc.edu

Our substitutes work part-time at licensed child care centers and home day cares throughout Guilford County.  The substitutes are placed in centers allowing the full time teachers release time to attend collge credit classes at GTCC and other colleges and universities.

Beginning August 2013:

At GTCC, you can participate in a 16-week training program that will prepare you to work as a substitute teacher in licensed childcare centers in Guilford County. In just one semester, you can complete 10 credit hours and earn your North Carolina Early Childhood Credential!

We pay for your books and tuition for one semester. You agree to work for the GTCC Sub Program after training. You'll be providing childcare for other teachers attending classes. Then, if you choose to continue YOUR education, you'll have a head start toward GTCC's Early Childhood Certificate and be on your way to an Early Childhood Associate Degree.

Employee Requirements:

  • Love of young children!
  • 18 years old, High School Diploma or GED
  • Reliable transportation
