| General Information |
Quick Jobs with a Future is a program that is designed to train participants with the skills needed for a particular job within 90 days. Currently, the program is offering 22 different training classes. These job areas have been identified through meetings and surveys of local businesses currently hiring for these job areas.
Current training areas are: Accounting Specialist, Administrative Medical Specialist (Coding & Billing), Automotive Maintenance Technician: Electrical Systems, Automotive Maintenance Technician: Auto Safety and Emissions, Automotive Maintenance Technician: OBD II, Automotive Maintenance Technician: Preventative Maintenance and Brake Repair, Bank Teller, Credit/Collections Specialist, Customer Relations Specialist, CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant), Dental Administrative Assistant, Electrician's Helper, Frontline Sales Associate, Health Insurance Billing Clerk, Medical Records Technician, Medical Receptionist, Office Specialist, Pharmacy Assistant, Truck Driver, Warehouse Technician, and Welder.
These training areas are not the only ones that will be offered through the Quick Jobs program. This list includes new training opportunities that have been added since beginning in February. As the program evolves, training options will continue to be identified and added to the Quick Jobs program. GTCC and the coalition partners hope to be able to offer up to 60 different training opportunities through Quick Jobs within three years. Therefore, if the training opportunity that you're looking for now in not available, keep Quick Jobs in mind - the training may be offered in the future.
The cost of the training classes ranges from $54-$1500, depending on the program. Books and supplies range from $15 - $275 per class. The college understands that the cost for retraining may be prohibitive for some. Various opportunities are available for financial assistance. The Job Link Center (Workforce Investment Act Funding) provides monies for qualified applicants. Other loans and scholarships are also available through the college financial aid office, various local funding agencies and BB&T.
A few of the training opportunities that Quick Jobs offers do not require a high school diploma or GED, however since most employers do require the diploma or GED, most of the training also has this requirement. If you do not have this essential credential, FREE Basic Skills training in preparation for the GED is available through the college. The college also has representatives available to speak about curriculum programs and other continuing education programs.
At each information session we will have representatives from various agencies available to speak with participants. These agencies include: Workforce Investment Act (Job Link) personnel, local companies who may hire participants trained thorough Quick Jobs; Financial Aid representatives from the college and from BB&T, who can offer loans and scholarships for the training; and college counseling staff to help participants determine the best training option available to them.
Members of the Quick Jobs coalition: The Cemala Foundation, Employment Security Commission, Department of Social Services, Duke Power, Goodwill Industries, Greensboro Urban Ministry, The Salvation Army, United Way, Welfare Reform Liaison Program, Women's Resource Center; and, the Workforce Development Board. |
