Admission Requirements

Dental Hygiene is a two-year associate's degree curriculum that begins each fall semester.  It is a limited enrollment program in which applicants must meet minimum requirements and specific deadlines to be considered for admission. Acceptance into the program is competitive. Thirty-two students are admitted into the Dental Hygiene program. Please note that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements must meet with an admissions advisor for the completion of a Dental Hygiene Minimum Admissions Requirement (MAR) review. This must be completed by the deadline date, February 10, 2011. Applicants denied admission must re-apply, and complete a new MAR and Ranking if they wish to be considered for the Fall 2011 program.

APPLICATION PROCESS: The following steps must be completed by February 10, 2011.

1.  Submit the GTCC application to Enrollment Services.

2.  Take the GTCC placement test, if required by the Admissions Office.

3.  Submit official high school transcript or GED scores to Enrollment Office. (Official transcripts are sealed in an

envelope and have the school's seal or original signature).

4.  Submit official transcripts from all colleges or schools attended since high school sent to Enrollment Services.

These will be reviewed for possible transfer credit.

THIS PROCESS COMPLETES THE ADMISSIONS FILE. IT IS UP TO YOU TO MAKE SURE YOUR FILE IS COMPLETE.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO APPLICANTS

As health care providers, the primary professional obligation is service to the public. Patients have the right to expect and receive quality care regardless of his/her circumstance and medical condition. All students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy.

Infection control guidelines in the dental department have been developed to protect the student and the patient from disease transmission. Beginning with the medical history of his/her circumstance and medical condition, all students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy.

A student in the dental program is at an increased risk for exposure to a variety of diseases, among them Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Because of these risks, students will be expected to follow all infection control/exposure control guidelines that have been established.

For further information on this policy, please contact the department chair for your program.
