“Regular attendance in class is essential to receiving maximum benefit from the educational experience. A curriculum student is to attend and be on time for all classes and lab/shop/clinic sessions. A student who has missed more than one sixteenth of the hours that the class is scheduled to meet (i.e., more than the number of clock hours that the class meets in a typical week) may not be permitted to continue in that class, shop, lab or clinic without permission of the instructor. In cases where particular considerations, regulations or accreditation requirements make it necessary, a department may establish more stringent attendance requirements. In all cases of absence, the student is responsible for making up all missed class work and for coming prepared to the class following absence.” (GTCC Management Manual)
In addition to the GTCC policy, the nursing program has adopted the following procedure:
1. Attendance is the student’s responsibility – attendance will be taken daily.
2. A student is excessively absent when he or she is absent more hours than the
class meets a week.
3. Students who are excessively absent will be notified in writing.
4. A student may have one occurrence of excessive absence during the course of
the educational program from without consequence.
5. A second occurrence of excessive absence whether in the same semester or
in a subsequent semester will result in dismissal from the program.
6. The student who has one occurrence of excessive absence in NUR220 may be
dropped from the program
7. Three tardies are defined as 1 hour of absence. Once the roll is taken, the
student will be marked present/absent/tardy. A student who is tardy has
the responsibility of making sure they he or she has been marked tardy rather
than absent.
8. When clinical absence is necessary, it is the student’s responsibility to notify
the clinical unit or instructor (to be clarified during orientation).
9. When an exam is missed, the student should notify the instructor and make arrangements to take the exam. |
