Auto Body Repair Program

This program prepares the graduate for a challenging and rewarding career in the collision repair industry. Topics that the curriculum covers include safety, tools, and the basic fundamentals of body repair; auto body welding; proper procedures for using automotive refinishing equipment and materials in surface preparation and application; and structural damage analysis and damage repairs. Diploma students also study plastics and adhesives; advanced painting and refinishing; special finishes; advanced body repair; and an in-depth look at structural damage analysis and repairs to moderately and heavily damaged vehicles. Diploma students also concentrate on special automotive mechanical system operations and diagnostics.
 
Program Description

Certificate program (day and night), fall semester, 14 credit hours.

Diploma program (day and night), Three semesters, 43 credit hours.

Day schedule 8am – 3pm, Monday – Friday
Night schedule 4pm - 10pm , Monday – Friday

Students are trained in the use of state-of-the-art equipment and materials of the auto body repair trade in G.T.C.C.’s 11,000 square foot modern auto body complex.

Students perform hands-on repairs in the areas of nonstructural and structural damage, mig welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing, mechanical and other related areas.

To document progress, students develop a portfolio that includes certificates of completion from I-CAR, BASF, and G.T.C.C.

Guilford Technical Community College’s Auto Body Repair program uses the I-CAR ENHANCED DELIVERY curriculum. ENHANCED DELIVERY is the only state-of-the-art, industry endorsed and developed collision repair curriculum that prepares students for the high-tech, rewarding careers of the collision repair industry. ENHANCED DELIVERY is mandated or endorsed by several state departments of education and meets NATEF requirements for ASE certification.

Basic tool kit is required and is available at the GTCC Jamestown Bookstore.

Required books - Approximatley $300

Students are required to purchase Fenders and Hoods at the GTCC Bookstore
Cost is $100-$200 for the year

 
Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate should be able to:

Perform structural and nonstructural analysis and damage repair;
Paint or refinish vehicles or vehicle components;
Read and write estimates;
