Welcome to the General Option - Automotive Systems Technology program. In this program you will take all of the same courses taken in the Ford and GM manufacturer- sponsored programs, but without their emphasis on a particular vehicle make or model. The Generic Option offers students the opportunity to develop the technical knowledge and skills needed in automotive service, maintenance and repair to prepare for ASE certification, and to gain the employability skills needed for a successful career in the automotive service industry.
During this program, students will get a mix of classroom theory and hands-on lab work to learn how to diagnose and repair engines; transmissions and transaxles; manual drive trains; suspension and steering systems; brake systems; electrical and electronic systems; heating and air conditioning systems; and engine performance systems. Students may opt for a certificate program, taking either day or night classes, or an Associates Degree, day program. (Read program descriptions here.) Within the Associates degree program, there is an option for students to participate in cooperative education with a dealership or independent service facility and receive both college credit and pay for the co-op time.
Upon completion of the Associates degree program, students who have participated in the co-op program will have met the experience requirements to take the ASE certification exam. |
