Message from the President
|
I am honored to be the new President of the GTCC Foundation Board of Directors. I have served on the Board for seven years and have been privileged to see first hand the positive impact that your financial and other support of the Foundation has had on our students and our college. Assuming the presidency following Jim Morgan means I have large shoes to fill and excellent foot prints to follow.
There are plenty of opportunities for support of the Foundation in the next few years. In order to fully realize our goal of raising $6 million for the Legacy Campaign, we must work to make our communities even more aware of the impact that Guilford Tech has on educational and economic development efforts, and the impact we have on the future of Guilford County and the Triad region. For example, did you know that 85% of Guilford Tech students remain in Guilford County when they leave school, adding to the talent pool and the tax base?
We have opened a brand new campus on East Wendover Ave which will serve the population of Greensboro in ways our old downtown campus never could. And our High Point campus continues to expand and grow, adding more buildings in the downtown area to help revitalize that section of our community.
The brand new Greensboro campus and the expansion of the High Point campus provide us with ample naming opportunities for anyone who is interested in pursuing this goal. We have rooms and facilities that can be named for a gift of $5,000 on up to $2 million the name the new Greensboro campus.
The Foundation staff is always available to discuss these naming opportunities. Jim Belk, the Foundation Executive Director, can be reached by calling 334-4822 (GSO) or 454-1126 (HP) ext 2707.
We have an excellent volunteer leadership team for the Legacy Campaign. co-chaired by Jim Morgan, Shirley Spears and myself. To date, pledges and cash contributions have passed $1 million toward our $6 million goal. While we have a way to reach our goal, I am pleased with our progress.
Recently, long time GTCC friends and supporters, Willard and Evon Dean, made a gift and had the Guilford Tech Board Room named after them. We also received an anonymous gift which will fully endow a Teaching Chair in our Culinary and Hospitality Management Department. With the new athletics program being established, we had a gift of $80,000 to establish the first of what we hope will be a number of endowed athletic scholarships.
None of this work would be possible without the outstanding skills and abilities of the GTCC Foundation staff. Jim Belk is joined by Margot Horney, Coordinator of Resource Development and Alumni Affairs, Melissa Kinney, Foundation Bookkeeper, and Leslie Young, Grants Writer. Together, this dynamic team keeps track of the funds coming in and inspires us to find more donations to send their way. Thanks to the staff for all of their hard work.
And thanks to all of you who have supported the GTCC Foundation with your gifts and pledges. We are honored to be entrusted with your contributions. You are making the difference to our students and ensuring the excellence that has been the hallmark of Guilford Tech for nearly 50 years.
D. Hayes Clement, Jr. |
