Cline Observatory
|
The Cline Observatory is a unique resource for Guilford County and the entire Triad North Carolina area. Its location on the Jamestown Campus of Guilford Technical Community College makes it possible for school groups, families and interested Triad citizens to have the wonders of the universe available in a convenient setting. The Observatory means that the planets, stars, comets and other celestial bodies are immediately accessible to view. It means that researchers can investigate the dynamics of the universe, and it means that interested citizens can see first hand the intriguing objects in space that affect tides, weather, seasons, and other aspects of our lives. School children can gain exposure to technology that will help them develop an interest in science.
The Cline Observatory is open to the public for viewing 1/2 hour after sunset every clear Friday night during Daylight Saving Time and at 7 p.m. during Standard Time. Sessions usually last about two hours, but may run longer or shorter depending on interest and sky conditions. Many interesting objects can be seen throughout the year. There is no charge for public night viewing and the Observatory is open to anyone wanting to attend. See our current schedule for this month. You can call the Observatory at 336-334-4822 (Greensboro) or 336-454-1126 (High Point) extension 2620 or email Tom English at GTCC to confirm time and availabilty. The Observatory is located at 601 High Point Road, Jamestown NC. |
