The International Year of Astronomy (IYA) is a global effort to help the public discover the wonder of the universe, by providing a variety of resources and programs in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first telescopic observations.
IYA 2009 was initiated by the United Nations and the International Astronomical Union. As of January 1st, 2009, 135 nations had established IYA programs, and a dozen major IYA initiatives had been launched. All over the world, astronomers (professional and amateur) are making plans to bring the universe to the public. The Cline Observatory will offer a number of special programs throughout 2009. |
