The Observatory is possible because of a gift from J. Donald Cline, a grant from the National Science Foundation, and the support of the Guilford Technical Community College Board of Trustees. Its presence on campus enriches classes in astronomy, which can be taken as part of an Associate in Arts or Associate in Sciences degree, and are transferable to baccalaureate programs. The Observatory also provides GTCC the opportunity to demonstrate the excitement of a scientific career to students of all levels.

Friends of the Cline Observatory provide the ongoing support that makes the Observatory accessible and ensures that it will be updated as new technologies become available. Friends receive quarterly newsletters and information about public events at the Observatory, and will be hosted at an annual event for Friends only. The suggested contribution for Friend of the Observatory designation is $25, but contributions in any amount are welcome. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

The expense of opening the Cline Observatory to the many citizens and school groups that desire to use it cannot be met by college operating funds alone. Therefore we need the help of our Friends to ensure that all those who want to take advantage of this important resource can do so.
