Real Estate

GTCC's Real Estate Training program provides 2023-2024 continuing education license renewal courses for those already working in the real estate field. Continuing education is a recurring annual requirement for all licensees who wish to maintain active license status eligibility.

Training to maintain eligibility must be completed each license period by June 10 beginning with the first full annual license period after initial licensure.

GTCC currently does not offer prelicensing courses. For information about prelicensing, please visit the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) website.

Current Courses

Broker-In-Charge Update (BICUP)

The 2023-2024  Broker-in-Charge Update (BICUP) Course is a four (4) hour course that must be completed by all brokers in charge and brokers who have BIC Eligible status and who wish to renew their licenses on active status on July 1, 2023, for the 2023-2024 license year.

Brokers-in-Charge and brokers with BIC Eligible status must take the BICUP course each year to satisfy the Update course requirement and to maintain BIC Eligible status, as prescribed by Commission Rules 58A.1702. and 58A.0110.

Course content is changed every year to keep you current in subject areas such as fair housing, contracts, Cybersecurity, provisional brokers on a team, law and rule updates, and licensing and education. The student manual is included in the course registration fee. All courses are approved by the NC Real Estate Commission.

General Update (GENUP) 

The 2023-2024 General Update (GENUP) Course is a four (4) hour course that must be completed by all provisional and non-provisional brokers who are not Brokers-in-Charge and /or do not have BIC Eligible status and who wish to renew their licenses on active status on July 1, 2023, for the 2023-2024 license year. Refer to Commission Rule 58A.1702 and 58A.1703 for a full explanation of brokers' annual continuing education requirements and continuing education required for license activation.

Brokers-in-Charge and brokers with BIC Eligible status must take the BICUP course each year to satisfy the Update course requirement and to maintain BIC Eligible status as prescribed by Commission Rules 58A.1702. and 58A.0110.

Between the Lines: Insight from the RE Bulletin (CE Elective)

A real estate elective course designed to address some of the most commonly asked questions posed by real estate brokers and to provide insight into many misunderstood positions taken by the Commission on transactional matters. This is a four-hour course for Continuing Education credit approved by Real Estate Commission office. Post 301-Broker Relationships & Responsibilities

The Post 301-Broker Relationships & Responsibilities course is one of the three 30-hour instructional courses in the North Carolina mandatory Post-licensing (PL) education program. The primary objective of the courses is to provide instruction at a level beyond that provided in Prelicensing courses on topics deemed to be of special importance in the active practice of real estate brokerage. Topics addressed in this course include:

  • a review of agency relationships in real estate residential and commercial sales and commercial property management transactions,
  • a real estate broker’s legal duties to clients and customers,
  • a step-by-step review and discussion of the functions and responsibilities of a real estate broker when working with property owners and buyers/tenants,
  • a review of issues associated with transactions in progress when a broker leaves a broker company, and a review of selected license status and education issues.

Post 302-Contracts & Closing

The Post 302-Contracts & Closing course is one of the three 30-instructional hour courses in the North Carolina mandatory Post-licensing (PL) education program. The primary objective of the courses is to provide instruction at a level beyond that provided in Prelicensing courses on topics deemed to be of special importance in the active practice of real estate brokerage. Topics addressed in this course include:

  • selected basic contract law concepts,
  • real estate sales contract preparation,
  • sales contract procedures,
  • buyer’s due diligence,
  • closing procedures,
  • Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act,
  • closing disclosure preparation,
  • contracts for deed, options, and
  • selected real estate license status and education issues.

Tuition: $188

Prerequisite: Per Commission Rule 58A .1902(b), a provisional broker as described in NCGS 93A-4(a1) shall complete all postlicensing courses pursuant to Paragraph (a) of this Rule within 18 months following the date of initial licensure.

Course Materials: Mandatory materials for this course include the current editions of:

  • North Carolina Real Estate Manual (hereinafter called Manual),
  • North Carolina Real Estate License Law and Commission Rules (hereinafter called LLCR),
  • and the Commission's Residential Square Footage Guidelines booklet. These publications in print or digital format can be ordered through the Commission's website or the Education Provider (EP).

 Note: Students are required to have mandatory materials/books purchased before attending class.

GTCC will make a 100% refund of registration fees if you officially withdraw from class before the first class meeting. GTCC will refund 75% of the registration fee (of tuition only) if you officially withdraw from classes on the first day of classes or before the class reaches the 10% point. The 10% point varies from class to class. To request a refund, please call our Career Education & Training department at 336-334-4822, ext. 53024, or email Janice Troy at jstroy@gtcc.edu. If a class is canceled or full, GTCC will automatically process a full refund. Refunds are processed monthly. The College refund policy is established by state legislative action and is subject to change without prior notice to students.
